freakin' ew!

Michael - "Mom, come and see this spider I found."

I take my time as there are plenty of spiders out here in nature and rural BC...

Michael - "Look, look"

And then all I can do is run and get my camera because I've never seen anything like this...

This spider was the biggest, most disgusting one I've ever seen in Northern BC - with its legs extended it would be about 2 inches across - its body was like a loonie - if something like that landed on you - you'd feel it and you'd be running wondering if a monkey had jumped on you... a hairy, poky, disgusting monkey... GROSS!

Anyone know what this might be... ok outside of it being a spider...

Wow! That is an amazingly wonderful spider. I hope to never encounter one! Sorry, haven't seen one like that in my grapevine, and I have at least 50 species there. Wouldn't it be nice if they had nametags?

Thanks, Paula for the emailed type on a place to get someone to figure out what kind of spider this is... I had one post already on what it might be... what doesn't make sense is why it is in northern bc...
and just in case you have a photo of a bug that you want id'ed - here is the site... http://bugguide.net/node/view/15740

Cool!

What type did they say it was?

So someone suggested that this is an Araneus saevus - orb weaver spider - I'm not 100% sure that this is what is living with my potato vine... but it did look pretty similar - maybe it is a northern bc variety...
