the smell of raspberries

Tonight we picked raspberries in the backyard - planning to do a little jam making - mmmm yummmers... tonight I was washing them and getting everything ready for tomorrow and I had one of those moments. My grandparents had a good size raspberry bush area in their backyard and we used to sit and eat and help pick for jam making and the smell of the berries as I washed them made me think of my grandma. It was like she was sitting in my kitchen. I think about her pretty often - lots of little things spark a memory; trigger a few minutes of her talking to me or sharing something with me. I also think about what she would say to me when I'm doing things that she took so much pleasure in.

Today was just a great day. It just felt like a real holiday vacation day. I did do some work, but it just felt great to get some of my office cleaned and spend some time with Andrew. We walked to Granvilles for lunch and just sat in the sunshine and enjoy some quiet time together... the smell of the raspberries and a reflection on my grandma just added to my day.

What else? Well we leave for Vernon on Thursday - hooray - and off to a little Martin family reunion. Hooray for vacation time!

Yum Raspberries! That is one of my favorite memories of being at my grandmas too - eating raspberries right off the bushes and peas too. It is sad I am sure her garden has gone to seed now and not sure if all those lovely raspberry bushes still produce anything now that she is in Dunrovin and my Uncle is the only one living there and I am not sure how much care he would give them.

I am back at home - we got back last Tuesday. The crops seem to be doing well. The canola is in full bloom as is the flax which are both beautiful. I hope to get some photos in the next few days and then will post them to my blog.

holy you are up late... isn't saskatchewan a couple of hours ahead... I look forward to the photos of your fields - your pictures are always great...

i can't remember when my grandparents raspberries stopped producing - but i remember us not picking them after i got out of high school - it's been great that our house had them -

side story - this afternoon while I was blissfully cleaning my office someone knocked on the door... "Hi - I'm your neighbour from the back - I've lived there for a long time and the people who lived here before you never picked the raspberries and I used to pick them. Are you planning to pick them?" Um,... yes... "Well ok them - bye" Reason number 801 for building a fence in the backyard.

We're just an hour ahead right now, so it was only 12:30..... A bit later than normal, but we watched a movie, so midnight crept up too quick.

Crazy neighbour! Yikes! Are you in someplace new, or is it the same place you have been for a while? And why did they come out of the woodwork now??? Bizarre. I would be getting a fence up too!

well I don't think this guy has lived there very long - its only been over the last couple weeks that I've noticed him in the neighbourhood - so I think he figured we must be new and thought he'd see how his line went over... definitely creepy...
